OUR MISSION

The Longo Strong Foundation carries forward Dante Longo’s work of building healthy, vibrant, resilient individuals and communities through fitness.

We install free, accessible workout facilities in public spaces and create athletic opportunities with the aim of empowering people of all abilities to prioritize their health and well being. Longo Strong also helps victims of traumatic accidents survive and thrive by providing life-saving blood to local hospitals.

The Longo Strong Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization dedicated to carrying on Dante Longo’s commitment to making exercise accessible, fun, and empowering for people of all abilities and backgrounds.

As a lifelong athlete, Dante used his love of soccer as a catalyst to successfully fight his way back from a severe car accident that left him in a coma with extensive injuries. He had to relearn how to breathe and eat independently, how to walk, how to talk, and eventually how to workout and play soccer again. Dante credited the ongoing role exercise played in his life for keeping his mind, body, and soul strong through moments of adversity, big and small. He soon built a fitness training business, Longo Strong Fit, to support others in making health and well being a top priority as well.

A beloved fixture in the community, Dante enthusiastically believed in meeting people where they are on their fitness journey, toning your spirit just like you exercise the body, using sport as a way to strengthen community connection, and instilling inclusivity and joy in the process. These too are the Longo Strong Foundation’s guiding principles as we carry out our ‘Fitness for All’  public fitness installation program and athletic community-building activities in Dante’s name.

Longo Strong’s mission is also intimately tied to supporting victims of traumatic accidents in receiving the lifesaving care they need to resume a healthy life.

Dante Longo overcame a traumatic accident thanks to his incredible spirit as well as numerous blood transfusions; the blood Dante received during his stay at Scripps Memorial Intensive Care Unit saved him and gave him the gift of four more years of life. The Longo Strong Foundation is committed to multiplying this gift within the San Diego community in Dante’s honor by connecting other patients to life and cultivating a culture of giving to meet the county’s ongoing blood supply needs.

DANTE GIANCARLO LONGO

DANTE GIANCARLO LONGO

Dante Giancarlo Longo blazed into this world on August 11, 1997 and has been the lighthouse of our universe ever since; he illuminated everywhere he went, showed how to be riotously and unapologetically oneself, and made everything and everyone more. He arrived a month premature, clearly in a rush to get here and experience it all, and he lived the rest of his days with this same insatiable hunger for life.

Dante’s personality was his magic. He lived life authentically and exuberantly and inspired those around him to do the same. The center of gravity seemed to shift when Dante entered a room, with his magnetic personality both putting people at ease and keeping them laughing. He was a dynamic balance of depth and lightness; both fiercely loyal and outrageously funny, a born leader and a committed team-player, intensely determined yet playful and lighthearted, formidable when necessary but much more often a caring, generous soul that loved hard and wasn’t shy in showing it. It is impossible to adequately capture his spirit in words, but click the button below to see how those who love him have tried.
